Day 10…a massive 27km and we’re in Laos!!
The border crossing proved to be fairly simple- we’d read that we’d probably have to put our bikes on a bus to cross the “Friendship” bridge that joins the two countries, so we were pretty chuffed when they waved us through on our bikes! A bit of a thrill to ride the couple of of kms over the bridge, although we were definitely legging it to keep ahead of the bus behind us, with no options for overtaking.

Laos is immediately a contrast to Thailand just across the river. Dustier, perhaps a little more laid back, roads so far are good but the sides are sandy instead of sealed so that was a bit of a wake up!

No options for brekkie at 7 am… late risers in Nong Khai!! So we didn’t eat until we were well into to other side….but a yummy “ Vietnamese” brunch hit the spot… and if this is how Laos does coffee I’m a fan!
We’re in the capital, Vientiane, just for a night so maybe it isn’t yet completely representative of the people and culture here – they seem a bit more off hand than the smiley welcomes we received in Thailand… but we’ll keep you posted!

Back to riding on the wrong ( right!) side of the road so a bit of mirror adjustment needed once we found a place to stop for the night.
Had a ( terrifying ) little bike tour of the city to find a spare inner tube to replace the one we wrecked a few days ago. Not too fond of the traffic… Neil is coping with it much more confidently than I am so I try to keep in the slipstream…. But we found an excellent bike shop so all good on the bits and pieces front!
Kind of amused at the electrics setup here too…

And then time to sit and relax for a while…when in Laos…
