In search of waterfalls…

Day 29, 114 km through rural Thailand

Left Tak after a “hearty” breakfast. And when I say hearty…this was ( accidentally) the buffet breakfast that Neil’s been hoping for the whole trip so far :). Think 6 eggs, 4 sausages, pikelets, rice, toast, muesli, yoghurt, fruit….and that’s just for Neil 🤪. Plus the four boiled eggs we pocketed to have later…let’s just say we made up a bit of food deficit this morning. Just as well, as lunch stops were in short supply when the time came!

A riverside ride for the first 40 km or so… cool and lovely, with lots to see and an insight into fish farming Thai style. Tropical freshwater fish, to a bystander seem to be a remarkably efficient way of producing animal protein. Looks like they feed them chopped up greenery from the roadside with maybe a bit of grain. Also their requirement for water seems amazingly low.

It was a really rural day of riding today, with some very remote roads- the occasional farmer that we stumbled across must have thought us a weird sight. Certainly no-one expected a couple of Farang cyclists out in the Thai sticks.

We reckon we were about 30km from the Myanmar border today…as close as we’ll get on this trip but a bit tempted for another journey another time!

We think those mountains in the distance are in Burma…but who knows…

Finished our day at the gateway of the Khlong Lan National Park, at a slightly odd accommodation but in a lovely setting…shared by about a million mozzies and some other strange scratchy creatures who we hope will stay in the walls and not find their way in to our room…

Tomorrow we’ll try and find the waterfall!
