Anuradaphura to Trincomalee- a biggy

Day 6 109km
so far…350km
Managed to be on the road before 6am to try and beat the heat as we knew this would be a big day. Figured we’d try and do the 100+km stretch to Trincomalee as not too many options to stay in between.
We’re both starting to feel a bit more bike fit and the first section was actually quite enjoyable! A couple of food stops and a very memorable “second breakfast” at a roadside stall where the guy was baking onsite in a little ramshackle lean-to. Delish! And if we come back to Oz a few kg heavier…it’s because of stops like these….plenty of deep fried goodness to be had on the streets 🙂
And… this for the princely sum of $1AU !

90Ks under our belt by around midday and then the 39 deg heat really started to bite…found a much needed sugar stop 20km short of the end stop with reusable glass bottles- always a plus!

A long hot hour on the last stretch, testing the limits of our devices (phones didn’t like the heat at all!) and our bodies (well one of us anyway…). Note to self. Avoid the midday sun.
And then…Trincomalee. Beach. Ocean…swims…beer… and a day off the bikes to do some ET work!
And…food. Neil is on a quest to find the perfect Dahl… while I find 3 curry meals a day is just overdoing it a little…
Anyhow tonight’s Dahl is the winner so far, accompanied by cuttlefish curry and our new favourite veg, “plantain”. Yeah…google it… tastes like potato only better! Who’d have thought that cooked green banana would be up there amongst the tastiest of foods 🤷♀️
The night was topped off with an impromptu bus load of musos from somewhere… on the street outside our eaterie- loads of fun!
