And so it begins…

Airport Day A not too early start and a lift to the airport- Thanks Stan and Ruby!!An uneventful flight…amusing escapades at the other end while a few guys ummmed and ahhhed about how to put two bike boxes in a van (or choice of vans…) and then a very late night arrival at our little…

Here we go again!

Winter in Tassie…the perfect time to disappear for a little while to somewhere we can complain about the heat… Although this week the Far South of Tas has put on some lovely Spring sunshine so really, there’s nothing to grizzle about here either! We’ve been contemplating this year’s cycle touring escapade for a while, but…

It’s a wrap…

And we’re home! For us this has been a wonderful adventure. 2700 km and over 14000m of ascent through beautiful but at times challenging terrain, not always knowing where we were heading next. We set out with perhaps a tad too much uncertainty with regard to weather, road conditions and no real understanding of just…

Home stretch…

To Bangkok and out Day 40, back on the bikes and we headed toward Bangkok. Somewhere around 80km later… we decided not to make such an extra huge day of it and stopped again at Petchaburi- a charming riverside centre with very minimal western presence. Explored the fascinating and ancient nearby caves, Tham Khao Luangand…

Hua Hin…beach days

Day 38 & 39… and a whole lot of nothing! A couple of relaxed beachy days with plenty of “swimming”…water temp around 31 deg so not too difficult to stay immersed! Lots of food…can’t get enough of the amazing seafood here! Heading back out for fresh crab shortly 😎 And lunchtime beers…what’s not to like!…

Ocean!

Over 2500 km and we’ve seen the ocean for the first time since leaving home 🙂 Kind of nice to be back on a beach! A leisurely three day trip from Kanchanaburi… day 35 on the road…around 72 km and not too much “up” A pretty easy ride and we stopped at what looked like…

Waterfalls!

Erawan National Park… A couple of days out and back to check out the renowned Erawan Falls…didn’t disappoint! We ummed and ahhed a bit and thought about grabbing a “taxi” or a moto out to the falls, just under 70km west of Kanchanaburi, but decided to make it a two day adventure and hopped on…

To Kanchanaburi

Dogs, and more dogs… Day 31 on the road….93 km and a tiring day for one of us! Quite a bit of mild uphill but probably also the effects of repeated long days… a bit of lethargy for me and a bit of ( well hidden!) frustration for Neil as he had to put up…

Rain…and more south

Waterfalls are a wonderful way to start the day! Nice to have a walk instead of a ride for a change…and what a fabulous waterfall to visit. Easily accessible, it did cost us $200 baht ($9aud) to enter the national park – a huge hike on local prices but well worth it. Very few people,…

In search of waterfalls…

Day 29, 114 km through rural Thailand Left Tak after a “hearty” breakfast. And when I say hearty…this was ( accidentally) the buffet breakfast that Neil’s been hoping for the whole trip so far :). Think 6 eggs, 4 sausages, pikelets, rice, toast, muesli, yoghurt, fruit….and that’s just for Neil 🤪. Plus the four boiled…
