Traversing the Thai countryside

Day 4 96.5 km

Day 5, 47 km

Over 96 kms travelled yesterday… felt like a huge day and both ready to stop by the time we arrived at Tha Tum. A few drink stops along the way…and iced coffee was easy to come by!

We found some snacks too… but even the lovely smile on this lady couldn’t persuade us to partake of whatever they were in that bag 🤣

A nice little hotel in a quiet street…a couple of km stroll into town to find some dinner as the sun set

Finding food proved trickier than we’d imagined- we paced pretty much every street we could find and despite Google displaying a heap of likely eateries there seemed to be none in existence! We eventually found a little Thai Bar/ restaurant with nice food and a friendly owner with enough English to help us navigate the menu!

Wandered through the same streets back to our hotel an hour or so later…to find that they had all come alive with food options, tables on pavements, and people everywhere! Clearly 6pm was just too early to eat…we are learning!

Not such an early start for Day 5 today. Woke to heavy rain which continued for a couple of hours, so a leisurely “coffee” from a 3 in 1 sachet and some bread and peanut butter from our emergency stash.

Hit the road around 8:30 for a lovely, scenic and easy ride through to the little town of Ku ka Sing, where I found a “proper” Thai hat to replace the one that flew off my head into a creek yesterday 😏

Chicken on a stick for lunch… at $3 a piece, a price that we think was created specially for us 🙂 #honoured #notabigdeal

We haven’t seen another western tourist since we left the temples in Cambodia… and there is barely any English spoken, but we are frequently greeted with hoots of laughter or surprise and a “hello, Barang” as we ride past.

A bit of an explore of the temple ruins at Ku ka sing and then off again for a short little leg to finish today.

Tonight we are somewhere on a highway… in a random little place opposite a fishing park, which looks like it has some good menu options! We’ll go test them out shortly 🙂

  1. Wonderful! Really enjoying your adventures (although my legs are starting to ache in sympathy…). Amazed at how much ground you’ve covered already.
It was cozy in the club last night, munching on sausage sangers around the fire…
