Day 8 to Nong Han- 133 kms, a biggie!
We knew we had a big day ahead today so we planned an early start… but it was still pelting down with rain at 6am so it was a little more leisurely than we anticipated, and we managed to hit the road around 7:30
So… 133 km later, it’s Neil’s turn to write the blog, I need a nap! 😘

We made a fast 40km under cloudy skies, then stopped for an iced coffee. They had the charcoal grill and freshly cooked ‘chicken on a stick’ (a popular Thai roadside delicacy) we passed that one by, lunch we thought. Two hours later, no chicken to be seen, numerous towns, an hour or more, hoping finally resorting to noodles in a mystery broth again.

Today the route was undulating and scenic, less rice paddies. Instead casava, sugar cane and rubber plantations.

Plenty of (dead) wildlife on the roads. Mostly little snakes, also this. I think it is some kind of yabbie, Rachael thinks wild camping is no longer an option.

Rachael, before we started, 100km days, no way, you are on your own. Hills, ditto.
120 km looking for accommodation for the night, plenty on Google, either closed or don’t exist.
Found a hotel at 133 km, 30 minutes before sunset, probably not worth the 25$au price.
Next to the Hotel, a wonderful restaurant filled up with a simple, but probably the best meal so far, beers from the shop next door, she even provided us with ice and glasses- we’re getting used to the SE Asian way of drinking beer over ice.
